What your result means

Total trip cost is the headline: everything entered, added up. Per person divides it fairly; per day spreads it across the itinerary.

Per person per day is the settling-up figure — what each traveler owes per day when costs were shared unevenly on the road.

How the calculation works

  1. Add every filled expense category; blanks count as zero.
  2. Divide by travelers for per-person, by days for per-day.
  3. Divide by both for the per-person-per-day fair share.

What this calculation takes for granted — check these before relying on the result.

Assumptions:

  • Default values are an example long weekend — replace every figure with your trip.
  • Blank categories count as zero; there is no need to zero them manually.
  • Costs split evenly; unequal shares (one person covers hotels) need manual adjusting.
  • Prices are today’s — fuel and fares move before departure.

Limitations

Why your real figure may differ:

  • Pre-trip purchases (gear, insurance, visas paid earlier) only count if you enter them.
  • Currency swings on international legs are not modelled.
  • Per-day averages hide expensive days — use the total for booking decisions.

Should flights count per person or total?

Use per person per day times your party size as the daily allowance. Keep a 10–15% buffer — road spending beats plans.
